hello!!

well training went well! after a week (Monday-Thursday) and I was able to meet some of the other interns as well as Marshall & Kiki (my housemates to be). it’s a really interesting organization and i’m so excited to start my internship! that being said, i’m wiped. it’s been an intense summer, with school and moving back here with such a short time before i move again…

i miss my friends from school. i’m so thankful that i’m busy because knowing me and my “sentimental-ness” haha i would be missing them more if i had more time. gradually people are setting up their blogs and getting ready to go. everybody has a field placement now! isn’t that awesome. a special congrats to janell who has most recently had everything fall into place. (you will do great!! i’m SO excited for you!) and all of you. i’m excited for all of you! keep in touch, don’t be a stranger… i’m still working on the DVD…

also, a side note, i bought my pack for backpacking, hiking boots, and a variety of other things. i’m so excited. also, i found out i’m going to be able to take spanish language classes 2-3 hrs a day. i’ve wanted to become fluent for so long! woo hoo

well that’s all for now, i’m going to spend some time w/ the fam tonight.
thanks for reading!

message to my fellow cohortians 06.18.2007

it’s funny how you can come into a program with all these people from all different walks of life and with radically different personalities and end up making so many wonderful memories, having some type of inside jokes/lingo, i don’t know… just all that stuff. and definitely you can learn a lot! we have a really unique group of people here. one by one people are finding out where they are going to be going for their field semesters. some have known for a while, some are still looking. but it’s awesome to see where they’re going to be and to think how God will use them. use us, in little ways, around this massive (but FLAT) world. lol
i’m going to really miss you guys!! i know i’m not allowed to talk about this, right janell? so umm i’m not talking i’m writing. buttttttt i won’t say that we only have 9 weeks left…. i mean if we talk in days, really, we still have 61 days. wow.
just to let you know too, me being a memory junkie and all, i usually get a journal when i’m going away and get the people that have been in the most recent chapter of my life to write something little (funny memories, advice, travel tips, contact info etc…) [although i am now a walking address book as well haha]… anyways, 9 weeks is enough notice to think about something to write? doesn’t have to be long. i know the guys have problems trying to stop talking and writing sentimental messages… and i’m sure u’ll all spend hours sitting up late thinking of what to write (ummm no.) between papers?
anywaysssssss i gotta get reading this book. press on for joy.
thanks for reading!

field placement opportunity 06.3.2007

Filed under: field placement, update — sbrisco @ 8:10 pm

today was a long day. i slept in (which was nice) and got ready for my day. my friend sam had offered to drive me to washington d.c. to meet with a director from an organization i’ve applied to… and so we headed out. unfortunately it was pouring rain today - the whole time!! (thanks sam!!!!) but we arrived there safe and sound.

the meet/interview went well. i actually wasn’t nervous at all!! i was sure i’d get butterflies or sweaty palms. lol — that’s the worst part when you’re nervous and you go to shake somebody’s hand! i should hear back soon and if i end up getting this field placement i will definitely blog about it so that you know. i plan on keeping my blog while i’m away as well… so you can keep reading all about me. haha…

the ride back it rained hard as well the whole time. thank God for safe travels, protection on the road and that we’re back safe and sound. and thanks to sam for the ride! it was really a huge blessing!! i don’t know how i would have gotten to this meeting place via bus/coach etc.

i need to get working on some homework now so my post will be short today.

thanks for reading!

homework 04.23.2007

Filed under: comment, field placement — sbrisco @ 11:35 pm

… yes homework, for you the reader.

your task should you chose to accept it is to give me some suggestions of organizations that i can look into for possible field placements. i am interested in both Latin America and South East Asia, but open to other possibilities as well. my field placement involves a minimum time period of 3 months but since I really am open to wherever God might lead I am open to a longer commitment.

in terms of what is needed… my internship requires I find a placement where the organization can provide:
1. Room and living stipend (though this will not always be possible.)
2. Be responsible for on-ground supervision and guidance for the field experience.
3. Part-time use of a computer and Internet access.
4. A one page written job description citing the expectations of the organization and what the intern will be doing. The job description should include the intern supervisor’s name, title and contact information.

any information, contacts, or suggestions you might have are welcomed! flood my inbox (most of you have my email) or leave a comment.

thanks for reading!
